Welcome to a behind-the-scenes look at one of my previous logo design projects right here in Solihull, where high school sports meet the art of visual storytelling. This journey began with a simple yet insightful conversation with a local coach dedicated to more than just athletic training, he aims to inspire life lessons through sports.

Understanding the Brief

A Logo That Inspires

Our initial discussions laid down a clear yet challenging brief: create a dynamic, inspirational logo that carries an energetic vibe and resonates with a youthful audience in Solihull. The keywords? Dynamic, inspirational, and iconic. The challenge was to craft a symbol that young athletes could rally behind.

The Design Process

Finding Inspiration

True inspiration often hits when you’re deeply immersed in your subject matter. To capture the essence of this project, I spent a few hours researching basketball and existing designs to absorb the atmosphere and really understand the energy of this sport. It was during this period that the idea struck me, a basketball with a blazing trail, perfectly symbolising the movement, passion and energy each player brought to the court.

Developing the Design

Back in my studio, the real work began. My initial sketches were rough, but the vision was sharp, a basketball propelled forward by a blazing trail. The choice of a varsity font connected to the coach’s American roots, yet was modernised to appeal universally, ensuring it wouldn’t feel out of place in the UK.

The Final Design

A Symbol of Ambition and Excellence

The final design process was where every element needed to harmonise. “Beyond” and “Basketball” were rendered in a bold, impactful varsity font, with the ‘B’s obscured by the fiery basketball, suggesting upward and onward movement. The star nestled in the ‘A’ of “Basketball” added a subtle touch of aspiring to stellar heights.

I framed the entire logo with a strong outline to ensure it stands out on any background. The red, white, and blue palette was a nod to the American roots but chosen for its bold and energetic feel, aligning with values of ambition and excellence, perfect for a logo design in Solihull.
