The Challenge:

A Logo That Hooks Attention

When an existing customer got in touch to work on a new project, I knew we were in for something special. Because we’d worked together before, the solid relationship we’ve built over the year made it easy to get a sense of their vision and brand identity for this new project. They were looking this time for a fishing logo that conveyed the thrill of sport fishing—something bold, instantly recognisable, and perfect for apparel branding.

The key phrase? custom fishing logo.

The task was to create a logo that, besides appearing simply unique on the computer screen, would be instantly recognisable on hats, shirts, and rest of the merchandise. It had to resonate with anglers who take their craft seriously while maintaining a sharp, modern aesthetic.

The Design Process:

From Concept to Catch

As there was already a relationship, we proceeded immediately to brainstorming. Sport fishing is a question of precision, skill, and patience—values that had to be encapsulated within the design. The client wanted something dynamic, something that would be the signature of an angler’s way of life.

I started brainstorming using imagery iconic to sports fishing—fishing hooks, marlin, waves—but the silhouette of swordfish readily presented itself in my mind as the perfect central figure. Its streamlined body provided a natural frame for the text, and the words travelled along its form rather than simply sitting next to it.

Typography was the other most important decision. A loose, freehand appearance gave the logo a natural aesthetic, balancing the streamlinedness of the swordfish. This also made it as outstanding on digital media as it did printed on fabric.

The Final Design:

A Perfect Blend of Form and Function

The completed customised fishing logo was a dramatic black-and-white badge, swordfish-shaped, with the company name inscribed on the body of the swordfish. The typography was strong but not overly rigid, ensuring a sense of movement—just like the ocean itself.

Upon approval, I presented the client with a full range of assets, optimised for everything from fashion prints to social media profiles. The ultimate proof that the design performed as required was witnessing the logo on a red bucket hat—bold, simple, and perfect for open seas.
